仲夏，是北国春城最富有生命力的季节，也是吉林外国语大学隆重而庄严的时刻。今天，大家最后一次以2023届在校生的身份欢聚一堂，既是与过去告别，也是向未来致敬。你们精研苦学、圆满完成学业，或继续深造，或开启职场人生。春华秋实，历经艰辛，不断磨砺，你们终于感受到了硕果累累的喜悦。在此，我代表学校向你们表示热烈的祝贺！并向含辛茹苦养育你们、一路见证你们成长的父母、师长致以崇高的敬意！
On this midsummer day, we gather together at this commencement ceremony for the class of 2023 of Jilin International Studies University, to bid farewell to the past and to forge ahead on a new journey. Graduates, you have completed your studies with painstaking efforts and are about either to pursue further study or start a career. Your hard work has paid off, and now it’s time for you to taste the sweetness of your harvest. On behalf of JISU, I would like to give you my warmest congratulations. I would also like to express my respect to your parents and teachers who have witnessed your personal growth along this magnificent journey.
在这样一个特殊的日子里，作为校长，我此刻的心情难以表述，既为你们学成毕业感到由衷地高兴，也为你们即将远航感到依依不舍。大学是你们淬炼成长的经历，毕业是你们厚积薄发的收获。犹记得入校时，我勉励你们要恪守奋斗是青春最亮丽的底色，在学习奋斗中彰显人生价值。回首四年光阴，我欣慰地看到，在吉外学习成长的这段时光，你们没有虚度，始终与祖国共奋进，你们见证了新中国成立70周年的盛典，感受了建党百年的恢宏气势，亲历了战胜疫情带来的严峻挑战，“学好外国语，做好中国人”成为你们心底发出的最强音。
On this special day, as your president, my feeling is beyond description. Though I hate to say goodbye, I am more than happy for your achievements. You have worked hard throughout your college years. I believe you still remember that on the school-opening ceremony, I encouraged you to take to heart the notion that “hard work paints a bright backdrop for a young life”. I am glad to see that you have lived your college life to the fullest. You have witnessed the 70th anniversary of the founding of People’s Republic of China, felt the glory of the centennial of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and have survived the daunting challenges brought by the COVID 19 epidemic, giving the strongest expression of youth by practicing the principle of being a qualified communicator of the world.
同学们，你们与学校同发展。过去几年，学校不断实现新的跨越。获批国家一流本科专业建设点6个，省级一流本科专业建设点13个，学科专业实力大为提升，相继入选吉林省特色高水平应用型大学A类建设单位和博士学位授予单位A类立项建设高校，2020—2023连续四年位居软科中国民办大学排行榜第一，实现了学生疫情零感染和学校事业发展双胜利。这是学校对教育价值和意义的坚守与弘扬，是对“以学生为中心，办最负责任教育”教育理念的最好诠释。这种努力和坚持，已成为每一位吉外人浸透到骨髓里的风貌和气质。
Dear students, you have been growing with JISU all along. In the past few years, JISU has been developing in leaps and bounds, being granted six national first-class undergraduate major construction programs, and thirteen provincial first-class undergraduate major construction programs. JISU’s disciplines and majors have been built stronger, and JISU has been selected as an A-class construction unit of Jilin Province special high-level application-oriented university and an A-class university of doctoral degree granting unit. JISU has also received the ranking as first in Academic Ranking of China’s Non-Governmental Universities from 2020 to 2023. We had no COVID 19 infections on campus even at the peak of the pandemic and achieved great development against all odds. This has given vivid expressions to the university’s mission of carrying out “student-oriented and a most responsible education”, which is the finest way to uphold and promote the values and meanings of education. Striving and perseverance are in the DNA of every JISUer.
同学们，你们的奋斗很出彩。过去的这几年，同学们经历了很多，感悟了很多，尽管受疫情影响，但学业没有中断，你们不断成长进步，意志更加坚毅，知识更加丰富，思想更加成熟，“会通中外，砺志敦材”的校训已成为同学们人生的坚实底蕴。你们中有考取东北大学博士研究生的李伟同学、香港大学硕士研究生的韩萱同学，有进入外交部工作的常雯杰同学，有卫国戍边、获得全国自强之星的罗春辉同学，还有获得波兰托伦哥白尼大学奖学金的徐亚男同学，等等。全员参与志愿服务更是成为学校鲜明的育人特色。特别是，你们在去年长春疫情最严峻的时刻，坚决服从国家和学校疫情防控大局，始终与学校同舟共济、共克时艰，全程封闭在校两个多月，你们在疫情防控大考中所表现出的自立自强、责任担当、逆境拼搏，给我留下了深刻的印象，也让我非常感动。正因为有你们，吉外才生机勃勃，满载荣光。学校为你们的成长进步感到欣喜，为你们所体现出的精神和勇气感到骄傲！
Your achievements have been outstanding. In the past few years, you have experienced and learned a lot. I am delighted to see that you have taken to heart the school motto and did not let the pandemic interrupt your studies, and you have emerged stronger and more mature with resolution and an enlightened and enriched knowledge. Among the outstanding achievers are Li Wei who will pursue a PhD degree at Northeastern University, Han Xuan who will pursue master’s degree at the University of Hong Kong, Chang Wenjie who’s has accepted a job in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Luo Chunhui who defended the country and won the title of “Star of Self-improvement”, and Xu Yanan who has received a scholarship to Copernicus University in Torun, Poland, to name a few. Student volunteer service has become one of JISU’s distinctive features. It is worth mentioning that you have demonstrated your self-reliance, responsibility, resilience, and tenacity during the pandemic prevention and control period. It is you who bring vitality and vibrancy to JISU. I am deeply impressed and touched by your resilience and courage. I am so proud of you!
同学们，青年兴则国家兴，青年强则国家强。习近平总书记嘱托广大青年，在青春的赛道上奋力奔跑，争取跑出当代青年的最好成绩。如何在青春的赛道上跑出最好成绩，是同学们需要认真思考和作答的人生课题。临别之际，作为老师、校长，我想送给大家一句叮嘱：接续奋斗，挺膺担当，与时代同行，一起向未来！
Dear students, remember that a nation will be strong only when its young people are strong and a nation will prosper only when its young people thrive. President Xi Jinping places high hopes on the youth and encourages young people to strive for the best and as the youthful generation, you should continue to reach for the greatest achievement. As you are about to head off campus, please continue to persist in your efforts, to shoulder greater responsibilities, to follow trends of the times, and to forge ahead into the future.
希望你们厚植家国情怀，锚定接续奋斗的方向。心中有丘壑，眉间显山河。家国情怀是中华民族五千多年历史积淀的生命自觉，是个人与国家紧密结合的血脉基因，是我们所有感情谱系的出发点。“得其大者可以兼其小”，所有的个人成长都与国家的发展、时代的背景紧密联系，只有与国家同呼吸，与民族共命运，个人的理想才会被赋予伟大的时代意义。一代人有一代人的使命，一代人有一代人的担当。同学们，你们正处在人生发展的黄金时期，与实现中华民族伟大复兴的关键时期高度重合，这既是千载难逢的人生机遇，更是责无旁贷的历史使命。“登高望远天地阔，纵横捭阖自从容”，成功一定是属于顺应时代潮流、响应国家召唤的人。李大钊说过：“青年者，国家之魂”，希望大家勇做新时代的追梦青年，把服务国家、社会和人民作为最高的追求，在“民族复兴、强国建设”的时代坐标中，找准定位，找准方向，在担当中历练，在尽责中成长，在勇毅前行中厚植情怀，真正成为奋进新征程的复兴栋梁、强国先锋！
I hope you will be patriotic, share weal and woe with the country and the people and display the sterling quality of living up to the hishest responsibilities while being broad-minded and always put the nation first. Patriotism is what connects us as one big family. The finer details fall into place when they align with the bigger picture. The destiny of each individual is closely connected with that of his or her country. Each age and generation has their own challenges and missions. The life of an individual will be rendered more significant when it is in tandem with the nation. Young people should provide cultural strength for building a stronger country and achieving national rejuvenation. Students, you are in the prime time of your life as well as the key period of achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. This is not only a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but also a duty-bound historical mission. Only by aiming high can one have a long and broad vision, and can be at ease in this complex world. Success belongs to those who follow the trend of the times and answer the call of the nation. Li Dazhao, a Chinese communist, once said, “The youth are the soul of a country.” I hope that you will pursue your dreams in the new era, take serving the country, society and the people as the highest pursuit, find the right position and direction in the era of “national rejuvenation and the building of a strong country”, and become the pillar of rejuvenation and the pioneer of a strong country!
希望你们锤炼过硬本领，汲取接续奋斗的能量。华罗庚说，“唯有学习、有创造性地学习，才能越高山跨峻岭”。当今世界，科学技术日新月异，知识更新瞬息万变，区块链、物联网、大数据、人工智能等各种新技术层出不穷，并且在更深更广的层面影响着我们的生活方式，也带来了更多的不确定性。对我们每一个人而言，唯有不断提升自我，提高素质能力，才能应对挑战，在不确定中把握确定性。没有谁与生俱来就拥有应对变化的能力，那些不断学习和精进的过程，是别人永远抢不走的竞争力，是你们这辈子最硬的底气。同学们，毕业不是学业的终点，只是人生新的开始，“吾生也有涯，而知也无涯”，希望大家走出校园，继续保持奋斗精神，勇做新时代的创新青年，永远保持探索的愿望和学习的渴望，将终身学习、勇于创新作为人生追梦的永久动力，勇于向师长学习、向榜样学习、向实践学习，提升“胸藏文墨虚若谷”的境界，涵养“腹有诗书气自华”的气质，炼就过硬本领，精湛自身技艺，汇聚智慧力量，书写不负时代、不负韶华的人生答卷！
I hope you will hone your skills and never cease learning. Hua Luogeng, the best-known Chinese mathematician, said, “It is through learning, creative learning in particular, that people can overcome difficulties and solve problems”. Science and technology are changing with each passing day as Blockchain, Internet of Things, Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and other emerging technologies are affecting our way of life to a unprecedented breadth and depth, but at the same time also bringing more uncertainties. Only by constantly practicing self-improvement can we cope with challenges and be certain in all our uncertainty. No one is born with the ability to deal with change, but life-long learning and self-improvement can become your absolute competitive advantage and boost your confidence. Students, graduation is not the end of study, but rather the beginning of a new stage in our life journey. “Our life has a limit, but knowledge has none”. Be resilient as you forge ahead. As you are about to embark on a new journey, you will face various challenges, and realize that life is not smooth sailing. Yet, no matter what, you must have the courage to face them and make tireless efforts to realize your dreams. As Heaven’s movement is ever vigorous, so must a gentleman ceaselessly strive along. Those who have made great achievements not only have extraordinary talent, but also possess the will to persevere with courage. Stefan Zweig once said, “Courage is the beam of light in adversity; it is a treasure, with which you possess the opportunity to change.” Every drop of sweat you shed in overcoming difficulties will become the most beautiful proof of youth; every effort you make in overcoming difficulties will become a treasure of your life. Those that walk, often arrive. Those that do, often achieve. While you are making efforts to better yourselves, I hope you will always bear in mind that “every success starts from details”. Work in a down-to-earth way, practice reason and control, and strive for the best so as to draw an illuminating blueprint for the future.
