大家上午好！
今天，我们在这里隆重举行2022届毕业生毕业典礼暨学位授予仪式，共同见证2779名本科生和306名研究生圆满完成学业。在此，我代表全校师生，向全体2022届毕业生表示最热烈的祝贺！向多年来关心、爱护和精心培育你们成长的老师们，表示最衷心的感谢！
Dear faculties and students,
Good morning!
Today, we are gathered here to solemnly hold the graduation ceremony and conferment ceremony for the 2022 graduates, the 2775 undergraduates and 306 postgraduates, who have successfully completed their studies. On behalf of all the faculties and students, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to all 2022 graduates! And my sincere respect to all the teachers and parents for your care and support and for always being there for the students.
我知道，同学们对毕业典礼是非常期待的。因为她既是加冕礼，也是祝福礼，更是出征礼。而今天的毕业典礼，意义更加非凡厚重。按照疫情防控要求，我们采取线下部分学生代表与云端相聚相结合这种特殊的形式，带着无限的祝福与期许，共同开启你们人生的新征程！
I know you must be looking forward to this graduation ceremony, where you will receive lots of blessings with the conferment. Today’s graduation ceremony is even more special. Some of the students are attending the ceremony on site and at the same time we meet virtually with you to see you off to a new journey with infinite blessings and expectations!
同学们，过去这几年，你们置身波澜壮阔的伟大历史进程，见证了党和国家发展的新跨越。在中国共产党历史上，在新中国历史上，乃至在中华民族历史上，过去这几年都至关重要且具有标志性意义。2019年，新中国迎来了70华诞。2021年，中国共产党迎来了100岁的生日。我国圆满完成了脱贫攻坚任务，历史性地解决了绝对贫困问题，全面建成了小康社会，这在中华文明史上具有划时代的意义。期间，我国取得了一大批重大科技创新成果，实现了 “神舟”飞天、“北斗”组网、“玉兔”探月、“祝融”探火、“羲和”逐日、“海燕”入海、“天眼”巡空等，以科技实力为支撑的综合国力持续提升，这都极大增强了做中国人的志气、骨气和底气！
The past few years have been of great importance and symbolic significance. We have lived through landmark events in the history of our Party and country. In 2019, we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China and in 2021, the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). We have set out on a new journey of building a modern socialist country in all respects while eliminating extreme poverty, which is of epoch-making significance in the history of Chinese civilization. During this period, China has achieved a large number of major scientific and technological innovations, including the “Shenzhou” manned space mission, the network of China’s “Beidou” Navigation Satellite System, “Yutu” lunar exploration, “Zhurong rover probing Mars, the Xihe satellite chasing the sun, and “Haiyan” Underwater Glider, and China Sky Eye Space Patrol, continuously enhancing the comprehensive national strength with science and technology. All this has greatly enhanced the ambition and confidence of the Chinese people!
这几年，你们见证了学校事业发展的日新月异。学校创办27年来，始终保持健康、快速发展步伐，实现了一个又一个新的跨越。2018年，学校成为第一所获批硕士学位授予权的民办高校；同年，学校正式更名为吉林外国语大学，成为全国第一所，也是唯一一所更名为大学的民办高校。2020年，学校入选吉林省特色高水平大学建设行列，办学资源和发展空间进一步拓展。2020、2021、2022连续三年位居软科中国民办大学排行榜首位。学校颁布实施《十年战略发展规划》，二次创业奋力开启，“六大高地”建设成效凸显，学校进入了全面推进高质量发展的新阶段。同学们，把学校办成一所精品、非营利、应用型、国际化、特色鲜明的高水平外国语大学，打造百年名校，是我们吉外人的共同理想，这个理想正在一步步地变为现实。我相信，同学们将不断增强作为吉外人的认同感、归属感、自豪感！
In the past few years, JISU has also been making great strides with each passing day, maintaining sound development and achieving one milestone after another. In 2018, it became the first private university approved as an authorized unit of conferring master’s degree and the first private college to be upgraded to university. In 2020, our university was selected into the ranks of high-level universities with characteristics in Jilin Province, further expanding school-running resources and development space. Since 2020, it has been ranked first among Chinese private educational institutions for social sciences on the Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Academic Ranking of World Universities for three years in a row. At present, the university is implementing the development strategic plan for the next decade and has embarked on a new entrepreneurial journey for school development and accelerating the goal of becoming a leading non-profit international studies university that is application-oriented, thoroughly cosmopolitan, and yet distinctly and proudly Chinese. This is the shared dream of all JISUers and we are seeing this dream become reality. I believe that you are proud to be a JISUer..
这几年，你们历经磨炼，收获了累累硕果。当前，国内形势错综复杂，国际形势风云变幻。新冠疫情带来了世界格局、国内环境的深刻变化，对你们的学习和生活产生了诸多影响。几年来，你们秉承“会通中外，砺志敦材”的校训，和学校一起戮力拼搏，团结协作，共克时艰。在做好抗疫防疫工作的同时，认真完成学业，保持昂扬的精神风貌，不断追求进步，全力提升自身的能力和素质。你们坚定信仰，担当使命，有549名同学光荣地加入中国共产党；你们刻苦学习，拼搏奋进，有15名同学获得国家奖学金，112名同学考取研究生；你们勤于实践，勇于创新，在全国大学生英语竞赛、“挑战杯”大学生课外学术科技作品竞赛等赛事中斩金夺银，获得省级、国家级奖项293项，为学校赢得荣光；你们胸怀祖国，甘于奉献，人人争当志愿者，在语言服务、冰雪旅游、脱贫攻坚等领域奉献青春力量，斩获中国青年志愿服务项目大赛全国金奖等多项荣誉，更有教育学院赵冰雪等7名同学积极响应到祖国和人民最需要的地方去建功立业。我点到的这些同学，只是全体毕业生的缩影。你们坚韧的毅力、无私的奉献，在特殊的时代，铸就了大学生活的华章！
Over the past few years, you have worked hard and received much in return. The complicated domestic situation and volatile international landscape, coupled with the COVID-19, have brought profound changes in the world pattern and domestic environment and also great impact on your life. Yet, you have adhered to the school motto of “be a good communicator and do things in a down-to-earth way” in overcoming the difficulties. While doing a good job in pandemic prevention and control, you’ve conscientiously completed your studies, maintained high spirits, and spared no effort to strive for the best. With firm belief and a great sense of mission, 549 students joined the Communist Party of China, 15 students won national scholarships and 112 students were admitted to graduate school, thanks to their hard work. You have won gold and silver awards in the National College Students’ English competition, “Challenge Cup” College Students’ Extracurricular Academic and Technological Works Competition, and won 293 provincial and national awards. I am glad to see you’re all ready to be volunteers. You have contributed your part in language services, ice and snow tourism, poverty alleviation and other fields. You have won many honors such as the national gold medal in the China Youth Volunteer Service project competition. Seven students, including Zhao Bingxue of the School of Education have contributed their part to serve the nation and the people. The students I mentioned are just the epitome of all our graduates. Your perseverance and dedication have created a brilliant chapter of university life in a special era!
亲爱的同学们，毕业不是成长的结束，而是未来的启航。未来30年，是你们接续奋斗、铸就人生辉煌的黄金30年，也是全面建设社会主义现代化强国、加快实现中华民族伟大复兴的关键30年。“人生黄金履程”与“强国关键征程”的高度重合，赋予了你们前所未有的发展机遇和时代使命。一个国家的进步，刻印着青年的足迹；一个民族的未来,寄望于青春的力量。亲爱的同学们，临别之际，作为校长，作为老师，我希望你们牢记习近平总书记的深情嘱托、殷切希望，踔厉奋发启新程，笃行不怠向未来！
Dear students, Graduation is not the end, but rather the beginning of a new journey. The next three decades will be the golden decades for you to strive for a brilliant life. It will also be the key period to build a powerful modern socialist country in an all-round way and accelerate the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. The convergence of golden journey of life and the key journey to strengthen the country offers you unprecedented opportunities and responsibilities. The progress and future of a nation depends on the young people.
希望你们要胸怀“国之大者”，做心中有光的逐梦者。青年者，国家之魂。同学们，你们生逢伟大时代，要心系“国家事”、肩扛“国家责”，要以国家富强、人民幸福为己任，胸怀理想，志存高远。高远的理想和志向，能够激发前进动力、引领人生方向。青春最大的幸运，莫过于个人目标与国家前途同向同行。100多年前，与你们年龄相仿的一批年轻人，挺身而出，探索救亡图存之路。中国社会发展、中华民族振兴、中国人民幸福必须依靠勇毅前行来实现。“百年恰是风华正茂，百年仍需风雨兼程”， 同学们，历史的接力棒已经传到了你们手里，希望你们理想坚定、信念执着，坚持从“国之大者”中寻找方向，扛起这份报效祖国的责任。要关心国家大事，关心世界大事。囿于小我，眼前即是世界；心有大我，世界便在眼前。无论大家今后从事哪一份工作，都不要忘记这份信仰与责任；无论在任何环境下，都不要失去理想的指引；无论面对任何处境，都要有家国情怀和使命担当。希望你们要树立远大理想，筑牢信仰基石，找到存在价值，守住内心秩序，将爱国之情厚植于心，立安邦兴国之志，践强国报国之行，淬炼成为有强烈使命感的筑梦人。让我们共同为梦而努力，为梦而奉献，为梦而创造奇迹！
Go chase your dreams and always remember that you are Chinese. You, the young people, are the soul of the country. Born in this great era, you should be concerned about national affairs, take the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the people as your own responsibility, aim high and strive for the best as lofty ideals and aspirations can give you great momentum. The most fortunate thing about youth is that one’s personal goals are in the same direction as the future of the country. More than 100 years ago, a group of young people of your age stepped forward to explore the road to national salvation. It’s the best of times and we need to continue to build on this achievement. Students, the baton of history has been passed onto you. I hope you will have firm ideals and persistent beliefs, and shoulder the responsibility of serving the motherland. The world is as big as your mind and heart. No matter what you do in the future, don't forget this belief and responsibility and do not let go of your ideal. I hope you will set up a lofty ideal, have faith, find the value of being, have principles, establish the ambition of making the country safe and prosperous, be dedicated to serving the country, and become a dream builder with a strong sense of mission. Let us work together for the dream, contribute to the dream and create miracles for the dream!
希望你们要答好“时代之问”，做手上有术的开拓者。历史的发展看似杂乱无章，其实有规律可循。我们每一代人都面临不同的环境，都要解答各自时代的命题，都要肩负各自的使命。一代人又一代人的努力，汇聚成为历史的洪流，成为历史的大势。“九层之台，起于累土”“人生易老学难成，一寸光阴不可轻”，面对知识更新不断加快，社会分工日益细化，大数据、云计算、人工智能、区块链等新技术新模式新业态不断涌现的新时代，终身学习已成为回答好“时代之问”的现实需求。正如法国文学家托马斯•布朗所说，“你无法延长生命的长度，却可以把握它的宽度；无法预知生命的外延，却可以丰富它的内涵；无法把握生命的量，却可以提升它的质”。同学们走入社会，要准确把握时代大势，勇于站在人类发展前沿，找准自己的定位，着眼回答时代之问。希望同学们惜时如金、潜心读书、敏于思考。“人才有高下，知物由学”，梦想从学习开始，事业靠本领成就。“与其坐而论道，不如起而行之”，要坚持知行合一、深入实践、严谨务实、苦干实干，做到无一事而不学、无一时而不学、无一处而不学，这样才能获取“活知识”，学到“真功夫”，掌握“硬本领”，解决“真问题”。腹有诗书气自华。衷心希望同学们要始终坚守“严细科学，务实求精”的治学精神，经受锻炼、增长才干、夯实根基、久久为功。苟日新，日日新，又日新。希望你们闯新路、创新业，走在创新创造的前列，做锐意进取、开拓创新的时代先锋，不断开辟事业发展新天地，努力使自己成为祖国建设的有用之才、栋梁之材，为实现中国梦贡献智慧和力量！
I hope you will answer the “question of the times” well and flourish into trailblazers with proper skills. The trajectory of history may seem chaotic, but in fact there are patterns to follow. Each generation of us faces a different environment, and we all have to answer the propositions of our own era and take on our own missions. The efforts of generation after generation have converged to become the torrent of history and ultimately the general trend of history. As the old Chinese sayings go, “A nine-storied tower rises from a heap of earth” and “The days of youth can be quickly gone, and it takes long time to achieve success in learning, so every second of every day cannot be easily let go.” Lifelong learning has become a realistic need to answer the “question of the times” in the face of the new era of accelerating knowledge update and the increasingly refined social division of labor, and constantly emerging new technologies, models and formats such as big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology. As the French writer Thomas Brown said, You can’t extend the length of your life, but can grasp its width; Unpredictable, and the extension of life, but can enrich the connotation of it; Unable to grasp the quantity of life, but can improve its quality.” When you enter the society, you must accurately grasp the general trend of the times, summon the courage to stand at the forefront of human development, identify your own position, and focus on answering the questions of the times. I hope that you will cherish your time, study hard, and think diligently. As Wang Chong, a great thinker in Eastern Han, remarked (25 AD - 220 AD), “High or low as our intelligence is, we need to understand things through constant learning”. Great dreams start from learning, and successful careers rely on skills. As the line from The Rites of Zhou, an ancient Chinese Classic, goes, “Instead of sitting back and pontificating, one is better to practice what you preach.” We must act upon the ideas of the unity of knowledge and action, in-depth practice, and being rigorous, pragmatic, and hardworking. As Zhuxi, an ancient Chinese philosopher, said, “You need to learn about everything whenever it is and wherever you go”. Only by doing so can you acquire “practical knowledge”, learn “proper skills”, master “hard skills”, and solve “key problems”. One who is filled with knowledge always behaves with elegance. I sincerely hope that you will always adhere to the academic spirit of “being strict, meticulous and scientific, and being pragmatic and refined in learning”. I also hope that you can stand the test of time, increase your talents, consolidate your foundations, and make unremitting efforts. As the line from Great Learning, a Confucian Classic, goes, if you can improve yourself in a day, do so each day, forever building on improvement. I hope that you will forge new paths, be at the forefront of innovation and creation, be the determined vanguards of the times to keep breaking new ground, and strive to make yourself useful talents and pillars for the development of China to contribute your wisdom and strength to the realization of the Chinese dream!
希望你们要勇担“青春之责”，做脚下有力的奋斗者。登高望远天地阔，砥砺奋进正当时。“奋斗是青春最亮丽的底色，行动是青年最有效的磨砺”。无论时代主题如何变换，不变的关键词就是“奋斗”。民族复兴的使命要靠奋斗来实现，人生理想的风帆要靠奋斗来扬起。奋斗不只是响亮的口号，更需要拿出“不待扬鞭自奋蹄”的精气神。青年时代面临的选择很多，关键是要以正确的世界观、人生观、价值观来指导自己的选择。选择吃苦，也就选择了收获；选择奉献，也就选择了高尚。人生之路，有坦途也有陡坡，有顺境也有逆境。希望同学们不要在困难面前退却，不贪图安逸，不畏惧困难。希望你们加强思想道德修养，不断养成高尚品格，德才并重，为了理想坚持不懈，在做好每一件小事、完成每一项任务、履行每一项职责中见精神。“好事尽从难处得，少年无向易中轻”。奋斗需要你们历经磨难而初心不改，在困境中奋起拼搏，在磨砺中锤炼自我。“人生万事需自为，跬步江山即寥廓”。尼采说过：“每一个不曾起舞的日子，都是对生命的辜负”。人生没有白走的路，跨出去的每一步都是将来的基石和铺垫。奋斗就要保持专注，奋斗就要持之以恒，奋斗就要追求卓越。同学们，选择了奋斗就是选择了成功。青年的人生之路很长，青春不在年华，而是心境，执着追梦，永不气馁。希望同学们始终坚守“简单做人，踏实做事”“天下大事必从细而作”的行为准则，继续发扬“开拓进取，负重拼搏”的创业精神，用脚步丈量祖国大地，跑出奋斗圆梦的“加速度”，用青春书写无愧于时代的事业篇章！
I hope you will bravely shoulder the “responsibility of youth” and be a strong fighter. It is the right time to forge ahead when you stand tall and see far.” “Working hard is the brightest color of youth, and taking actions is the best trial for young people.” No matter how the theme of the times changes, the keyword “strive” remains unchanged. The mission of national rejuvenation must be realized through striving, and so is the raising of the sail of the ideal of life. Striving is not only a catchy slogan, but also needs to show the spirit of “a-fine-horse-dashing-without-a-horse-whip self-initiative”. You have many choices ahead of you. The key is to guide your choices with the proper world outlook, outlook on life and values. If you choose to endure hardship, you choose to gain; if you choose to devote yourself, you choose to be noble. Life is not always smooth sailing. I hope that you will not retreat in the face of difficulties, not covet comfort, and not be afraid of hurdles. I hope that you will strengthen your ideological and moral cultivation, continuously foster noble characters, pay equal attention to both ability and integrity, persevere in pursuit of ideals, and demonstrate your character in doing well in every little thing, completing every task, and performing every duty. “All worthwhile accomplishments come with hardships.” Striving requires you to go through hardships without changing your original aspiration, to work hard in tough situations, and to temper yourself through trials and tribulations. “In one’s life, everything must be experienced by oneself; One can travel across the vast rivers and mountains and create a vast world step by step with perseverance.” Nietzsche said: “We should consider every day lost on which we have not danced at least once.” Each and every step we take in life counts, and it is the cornerstone and foreshadowing of the future. To strive is to stay focused; to strive is to persevere; to strive is to pursue excellence. Dear students，those who choose to strive choose success. The road of life ahead of you is still quite long. Youth is not a time of life, but a state of mind. You should stay persistent in the pursuit of dreams. I hope that you will always adhere to the code of conduct of “simple in being, practical in doing” and “Little things make big things happen.” I hope that you continue to carry forward the entrepreneurial spirit of “blazing a trail and soldering on” and leave your footprints on the land of China and realize the dream with accelerated pace so as to use youth to write a chapter worthy of the times!
韶华易逝，过后不再。李大钊先生说：“黄金的时代，不在我们的背后，而是在我们面前；不在过去，而是在将来！”同学们，长空万里，好风正劲。你们的前方是时代强劲有力的召唤，你们的背后是母校的无限牵挂。母校的关爱不会因毕业而结束，母校永远是你们坚强的后盾。未来无论你们飞得多高多远，请记住，吉外永远是你们的家！
Time and tide wait for no man. Mr. Li Dazhao, a pioneer of CPC, said: “The golden age is not behind us, but ahead of us; not in the past, but in the future!” Dear students, the sky of your life is boundless, and the wind of opportunities blows hard. In front of you is the powerful call of the times, and behind you is the infinite concern of your alma mater. The care from us will not end with graduation, and JISU will always have your back.
